Store Policies
We offer complimentary punch cards that we punch for regular priced merchandise. Exceptions include class fees, sale items, or any consignment items which does include the Recreate section, Rustic Giraffe, and Bejeweled. A filled card may be redeemed on a future purchase and you may redeem up to 2 cards at a time. Each redeemed card is $10 off your purchase.
Returning a product you purchased – we ask that you please bring the original receipt of payment for any return. There are no returns on sale items, Recreate items, or sidewalk sale items. Absolutely no refunds will be done without a receipt.

Hello to All Our Recreate Vendors!
Welcome to the Checkered Cottage Recreate area. We are so glad you have partnered with us to resell your gently used merchandise.
To get your merchandise out on the floor more quickly, here is some information to keep in mind:
-When you bring your gently used merchandise in, it takes several months to move those items onto the floor. Please be patient. Your merchandise is priced and put out on the floor for 60 days, 30 days at full price and 30 days more at half price. You will receive half of the total sale price paid.
-Here are the holiday drop off dates:
Valentine’s Day – 11/1 thru 1/1
St. Patrick’s Day – 11/1 thru 2/15
Easter – 11/1 thru 2/28
Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and July 4th – 1/15 thru 3/15
Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas – 7/1 thru 9/1
-Please only bring in 100 items or less. We reconcile the merchandise you bring at the end of your 60 days on the floor. Having 100 items or less makes it fair to the other vendors waiting to get their merchandise out on the floor. We will not accept more than 100 items at a time.
-Vendors may only bring in merchandise every 3 months. For example, if you dropped off merchandise on May 1st you may next bring in merchandise August 1st. This is to ensure we can reconcile your account after 60 days and provide space for the other vendors waiting for their merchandise to be on the floor.
-Please remove all price tags before bringing your merchandise in, including old price tags and garage sale tags. Your merchandise must be clean and free of dust and sticky residue. Rubbing alcohol removes sharpie marker and sticky residue. This keeps the flow of merchandise to the floor quicker. Remember the better your merchandise looks, the better it sells.
-All items should be individually packaged (loose stamps and dies). We will no longer accept merchandise in a binder or storage container. If you no longer have the original packaging, inexpensive zip top type bags are great for this. Again, this keeps the flow of merchandise to the floor quicker.
–We do not accept single sheets of paper, overly used stamps and stamp sets or stamp sets that have missing pieces, opened ink pads (unopened and gently used pads with the re-inker are accepted), “how to” books or magazines, foam stamps, brass templates, flat stickers or stickers that have been partially used (3D stickers are accepted) and craft items that do not pertain to paper crafting. We also do not accept Quickutz dies or Crafter’s Square items. Paper pads should be in good condition or in a bag. We will accept the flat 12 x 12 sticker sheets (If you put them in a cellophane bag). We do not accept liquid glue even if never used. We do not accept used albums.
-Please bring in a box or bag that you do not want back. We cannot transfer your items to another container.
As a final reminder, for those of you that pick up your merchandise that has not sold after 60 days, please do not bring that merchandise back for a second time. This keeps it fair to the other vendors waiting for their merchandise to go out onto the floor.

Anniversary Sale is always held in August – watch Facebook or email sign up for more information
Christmas Open House – generally is the first week of November but we are usually closed a day to two before in order to prep and decorate the store. Watch Facebook or email for more information.
Small Business weekend sale – is always the Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving. This sale weekend does include Recreate items without any cash hit to the sellers.
Store Refund Policies
Punch cards – limit 2 redeemed per visit. There are no punches on commission, jewelry, or recreate merchandise. All sales are final on recreate and clearance merchandise. Without a receipt you will receive an in-store credit on any other purchases returned.
Store Hours
Monday through Friday: 10 AM to 5 PM
Saturday: 10 AM to 4 PM
Sunday: Closed
The following Holidays we are always closed – Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Year’s Day.
Occasionally we close due to special circumstances or how a calendar year falls – please watch via Facebook or sign up for email letters to receive more information regarding those dates.
Inclement weather rule – rule is call the shop – if you get the answering machine then we have not left our homes either. We used to say we follow the Kirkwood School District closing but lately they have closed when it wasn’t necessary for us to be closed – so just call before heading out if in doubt.
